What can the building addition provide for the school and parish?

The before and after school care program provides a safe and fun environment for students with working parents. Additionally, the first year of summer care was very successful and provided for approximately $35,000 in profit.  However, expanding these child care programs is limited based on space requirements and the outdated portables.
Currently, the computer lab can only accommodate a partial class of students.  The additional classrooms will allow a full class of students to learn and use technology together.  This benefits both teachers and students who have the space to learn as well as alleviates tight schedule issues.
Lunch would be brought in from Bishop Neumann and served in the new lunch room.  This eliminates the need for children to cross 1st street when walking down to Neumann as well as deal with coats, gloves, hats and wet shoes in stormy and cold weather.   Lunch schedules would be positively effected and both Bishop Neumann and St. Wenceslaus students would eat at more normal times.
A new commons area would be used for multiple occasions.  These include: CCD gatherings, multi-grade activities, family area for funerals or weddings, and a general meeting space instead of church basement and parish office.
The unattached portable classrooms are 28 years old.  Drafty and inefficient, they are in need of maintenance or replacement.  Currently they are grandfathered in; however, if a new portable was purchased we will have to meet updated zoning rules.  A new portable would also reduce playground space.
St. Wenceslaus Catholic School provides services to those students who require additional assistance in order to succeed.  However, due to the lack of additional classrooms and quality meeting space, both Speech and Resource teachers are using old storage rooms and small common areas as places to meet with students.  The proposed addition will provide quality learning space for these children.
In order to grow the curriculum at St. Wenceslaus and offer more learning opportunities (such as grade school Spanish), the school building must have the space for additional classrooms.  The proposed building plans will allow immediate future expansion to the north.

Lightning Campaign 2.0

Over the last few years, the St. Wenceslaus Building Committee has held multiple campaigns to raise funds for the school addition.  In May of 2019, we exceeded our initial goal and raised $1.7 million and finally with approval from the Dioceses in May of 2021, we broke ground on the new school addition.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, increases in material costs and building code changes, the cost has now increased to $2.2 million with an additional $300,000 needed in a contingency fund.

Our current funds will allow us to continue construction until the end of the year.  At that time we will have to take out a loan from the Diocese to finish the school expansion.

We will have five years to pay back the loan from the Diocese.  The sooner we can pay off the loan, the less interest we will owe.  Additionally, if we can raise the full amount, no loan would be needed!  With this in mind, we have initiated the “Lightning Campaign 2.0” with a goal to raise $800,000 by the end of the year.
